Check the throne before changing the drums

Begin with a stable seat, then place the drums around the player.

If the kit feels awkward, check the throne first. Make sure it is stable and that you can reach both pedals without sliding forward on the seat. Adjust its height in small steps, then play a simple groove before moving other equipment.

Try a short fill as well. Notice whether you are reaching up for the snare or leaning far to reach a tom. Once the seat position feels comfortable, bring those instruments within a comfortable reach and test the same passage again.

Write down or photograph a useful throne setting when you find it. A particular inch measurement or hip angle cannot fit every player and kit. This check is about noticing awkward reach and making a practical adjustment; persistent discomfort needs individual attention rather than another universal setup rule.
