Try a snare delay in context
Judge the effect with the band playing, including any rests.
If a song calls for an electronic snare texture, ask the engineer to try a short delay during rehearsal. Begin with one quiet repeat, then compare the passage with the effect bypassed. Delay time controls when the repeat arrives; feedback controls additional repeats.
Listen to the next vocal phrase and any band stops. An effect that sounds appealing on isolated backbeats may add unwanted hits during a pause. If it distracts from the passage, reduce the effect level, adjust the time, or remove it.
Confirm how the effect will be turned off between songs and whether it reaches your monitor as well as the audience mix. Settings depend on the processor and arrangement, so save the setup that worked at rehearsal. The acoustic snare can remain dry when the effect adds nothing useful.
