Take the part to a different room

Start with the familiar part and hear what the new space changes.

When the band plays in a different room, begin soundcheck with a passage you know well. Ask the engineer or leader to listen from the seating area while you use your normal part and touch.

A larger space does not automatically need more open hi-hat, harder strokes, or a longer snare sound. The room, microphones, and amplification may change how the same part is heard. Ask which sound needs attention before changing it.

If cymbal wash obscures a phrase, test a quieter or more closed sound through that same passage. If the drums lack definition, discuss the balance with the engineer and try an adjustment they can assess. Keep useful notes about this room, including the listening position and passage tested. That gives you a better starting point for the next visit than a rule based on room size.
