When a drumhead tears
A damaged head needs inspection before the drum goes back into use.
If a drumhead tears during a song, stop hitting that head. If the situation allows you to continue safely, use the remaining instruments for a simple part and follow the band’s ending. Do not try to repair the drum while you play.
Afterward, remove the damaged head and inspect the drum before fitting a replacement. Look for obvious damage to the hoop or bearing edge and check that the replacement suits the drum. Follow the manufacturer’s installation and tuning instructions, tightening gradually and evenly.
A tear alone does not prove that you hit too hard or tuned too high. Record what you can actually see: where it tore, whether the head was already worn, and whether anything sharp touched it. Carrying a suitable spare head and knowing how to fit it can make the next repair simpler.
